Đurđica PEZELJ, senior assistant. Born on April 23, 1968 in Gospić. Studied geology at Integrated study of geology performed by the Faculty of Science and Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering in Zagreb. Her graduate thesis was "Peculiar microfossil community from the Badenian marls from the vicinity of Planina" (1995, mentor J. Sremac). Her master thesis was titled: "Palaeoecological analysis of the Badenian taphofacies in the Medvednica Mt." (2002. mentors A. Sokač and J. Sremac), and dissertation: "Paleoecological relationships of the Badenian and Sarmatian in the area of the Medvednica Mt." (2006. mentors J. Sremac and A. Sokač). Since 1998 she was employed as an assistant in the Institute of Geology and Geological Engineering of the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Petroleum Engineering. Since 2002 she works as an assistant, and, later, senior assistant at the Institute of Geology and Palaeontology of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics. She performs exercises for different palaeontological lectures (e.g. General Palaeontology, Micropalaeontology). Her scientific work is focused at the Neogene, particularly Badenian and Sarmatian deposits from the Croatian part of the Central Paratethys. On the basis of microfossil communities (dominantly foraminifera and ostracods) she interprets different palaeoenvironments, from shore face to upper bathyal. In cooperation with scientific team from the Institute Ruđer Bošković, she determines recent microfossil communities from the Adriatic Sea. She published 4 scientific papers and 5 congress abstracts.
